‘The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but building the new’ Socrates
Its fair to say 2017 was a year of change. It has been undoubtedly the most challenging year of my life, but affliction breeds adaptation and adaptation gives rise to growth. It may not have been my preferred method of teaching given the choice but i have learnt more about myself in the last 9 months than the previous 340 combined. I now have a much clearer view on what’s important in my life, what happiness is, what I’m capable of and its all because of this change that I never asked for.
I had the easy route, change happened to me, I didn’t have a choice. The real challenge is to force change upon yourself, especially when nothing in particular seems to be wrong. I was certainly guilty of it, for years I would dream of things I wanted to do or change and for years they remained as dreams. Its that time of year when you decide you’re giving up chocolate, you’re going to read more and start doing yoga, that’s great but its ok to think bigger. What do you really want from life, you may not know yet, but without change you may never find out.
From physical challenges and charity work, to getting married and maybe even a job, 2018 will be another year of change and am I worried, no, I’m excited. Don’t ever be afraid of change, embrace it, in fact encourage it, because it always leads to opportunity as long as you keep your eyes open.
Maybe its time to really take a leap outside of the comfort zone.
Happy New Year
